Reaching up into the sky
I wanted to embrace the half moon
I could cradle it in my arms
And throw it into this sea of sound
I’ll make a wish as it sinks into darkness
All the way to the bottom of midnight
Sending ripples through the clouds
It’s more than a penny thrown into a well
My heart is overflowing
Torn out and crumpled up
I could shriek and tear the night sky
I could sing
As I digest this echoing melancholy
White space returns
I’m just as empty as before
Reaching up into the sky
I wanted to embrace the laughing half moon
My hands are overflowing
Even if I left these wounds gaping and raw
I won’t bleed a single drop
A penny for every thought
Rattling around in my pockets
I’ll cast them into the sea
A silent confession
When the yellow streetlights sink into darkness
When I sink to the bottom of these dreams
